TEDxUWMilwaukee is a student-run initiative dedicated to changing the world.
Our mission can be best summed up by cognitive scientist Steven Pinker: "We will never have a perfect world, but it's not romantic or naïve to work toward a better one." TEDxUWMilwaukee works toward this overall goal by giving those with an idea worth spreading a stage to share it. Whether that be an artist, scientist, some sort of artificial intelligence, or perhaps even just the average Joe dedicated towards bringing good to this world, we believe that the best ideas can come from any walk of life.
We believe the world can be changed, and we take pride in the fact that we are actively working towards that goal. Nonetheless, TEDxUWMilwaukee is not elitist. We don't pretend to own this idea that the world can be changed, and invite others to join us in our efforts. In fact, we don't believe that ideas can be owned. This is what makes ideas more powerful, more important than perhaps anything else. In the words of Author George Weigel, "Ideas are not intellectuals' toys: ideas have consequences, for good and for ill, in what even intellectuals sometimes call 'the real world.' " Yet, despite this potential that ideas have, as Indian civil rights activist B.R. Ambedkar wrote, "Humans are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise, both will wither and die."
TEDxUWMilwaukee is always looking for new members. We look for passionate and motivated people. We look for those who want to leave their mark, not to go down in history, but to make history.

X = independently organized event.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations)
